Freedom and Conflict

11/14/2017

Freedom is something that is valued here in the U.S. Freedom is available to us because of the people in the past's hard work. Freedom gives the citizens of the U.S. to be able to do things which are not allowed in other country as long as it won't hurt other people as a result. Freedom isn't always peaceful because it comes with conflict right next to it. Conflict isn't always bad thing, it can be a good thing because it means the the government will be able to see both sides of the argument and decide which one is more right or just not accept both ways. Some negative ways that conflict can create is hatred toward others which can end up hurting people.  Freedom and conflict together make a perfect pair because it would mean that no one party is one sided, it means that there are many different points of views that everyone may have.

I am close to reaching my goal of having at least 5 A's this year and I have 4 A's with 2 high B's. I am doing well on reading books I am close to finishing A Series of Unfortunate events book #10 and Finished reading The Wizard of Oz. I think I am doing a good job in participating for this class since I try to participate for the academic discourse and I have on occasions. Some strengths I have in this class is that I am able to remember easily what word parts are what but some weaknesses I have are when I am put on the spot to answer something. Some things that are challenging for me are the projects since I get easily distracted. Some

The Crucible Reflection

10/23/2017

This year I have read and finished reading the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller. While reading the Crucible I have learned many different things about the Salem Witch trials and get an understanding of the time during the Red Scare. One fact about The Crucible is that it takes place in 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts, it is telling us that during the time of the Witch Trials everything was chaotic and that there was almost little to no trust in the town of Salem where everybody would blame each other for Witchcraft almost like the Red Scare. While reading The Crucible i felt disappointed in our country on how they behaved because they would hang others without a second thought and if they didn’t do that they would lock them up in jail. I felt that those actions were wrong because I believe nobody deserves to die even if they committed a horrible crime, the way the people of Salem would kill them was a horrible way that nobody should deserve. A new idea I learned while reading The Crucible was understanding the concept of scapegoating. Scapegoating is basically blaming others who are the most likely to get blamed. Something that I learned from The Crucible was that I shouldn’t blame something or someone without going more into depth and learning more about that subject.

Growth vs. Fixed Mindset Reflection

8/31/2017

This project revolved around the idea of two different mindsets. Those two mindsets are called a growth mindset and a fixed mindset. What I did for the last week was talk with my partner of what we wanted to do to make our project to stand out. We decided on a “Star Wars” themed project and use Yoda and Vader. We then worked on our two paragraphs for about two days. We started working on the artifact on the last day which was thursday. I learned that I have a growth mindset. What I think I can improve for the next time I do a project is learn how to manage my time better and be able to discuss about the project better with my partner via electronics. This project helped me learn the difference between a growth and fixed mindset. If I could have done anything different it would be that I would have liked to have more time to think about how I would make our artifact stand out from the rest.

Growth vs. Fixed Mindset

Everyone has either a growth mindset or a fixed mindset. It is no secret that most people that give up have a fixed mindset because they are scared of failing and hurting their reputations, but the opposite of a fixed mindset is a growth mindset. Many details converge together such as when a so called “smart” student feels threatened by the success of others according to Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck (12). One detail that is worth mentioning is that growth mindset individuals take in all the  criticism from others because it tells them what others want to see in something or to try and fix another thing. Not only that, but most students figure out that if you have a growth mindset, you have a brain that is malleable which means it can be shifted and changed. Also, a person who has a fixed mindset ignore feedback because they are scared as to what to others might criticise them for.Dweck stated that, “some students want to show off their ability, while others want to increase their abilities” (13). Sometimes a vocal trigger such as “you are smart” can cause a fixed mindset in a person (13). Not only that but it is important to start to converge a child’s mind to a growth mindset because many successful individuals such as Oprah Winfrey, Thomas Jefferson, and Michael Jordan because most of them had to fail a lot in order to learn from it and grow as a person. No successful person has gotten anything right in one try, but they are successful because they learned from their mistakes and grew as a person and then became a success. This is why having a growth mindset is so important because in life nothing you do will be done right the very first time you do it, but with hard work and dedication, you can succeed.
